Learning to See    9/2/15

For this first project, we walked around outside of the school to find a couple different things to photograph. These objects or sceneries were thought about and had some meaning to them. Then we went out and took these photos:

Egg Lighting   9/11/15

For this "Egg Project" we studied lighting from different angles. I used a flashlight and positioned it in different spots to light up a certain area of the egg and cast a shadow. I practiced front lighting, side lighting, top lighting, back lighting and a lighting position between front and side. Studying the angles of lighting are very important for taking portrait photographs.

                                          side

                                          back
                                          between front and side

Shutter Speed   9/17/15
For this project I learned how to adjust shutter speeds. I made an action blurry and the background clear and the action focused and the background blurry. Also, I was able to make a waterfall smooth and freeze the water.

Aperture  9/25/15
Aperture is the size of the hole in the camera that lets light in. So for this project I learned how to change the size of aperture to adjust the lighting in each photo.

ISO     10/1/15
For this project I learned how to adjust ISO which is the sensitivity of the camera sensor to light. I worked with still life objects to practice this.
I didn't really like this project very much. I zoomed in on the same area with different ISOs to show the difference in quality, grain and lighting.

      Rembrandt   10/8/15
Rembrandt lighting is when you have a portrait and one side of the face is fully lit and the other side is dark except for a triangle of light on the cheek of the person.

Light Painting photos    11/18/15
For this independent project we decided to do light painting. We used a tripod and a remote clicker to take the picture to keep the camera still. We used a slow shutter speed to capture all the movement of the light. We used mostly 20 second and 30 second shutter speed. We also changed around the ISO to get the right brightness.

  Shoot What You Love  1/12/16
This project was to take photos of something you love. I chose to take photos of different pets because I love animals. I used my new macro lens for all of them except the first one.
